Technology@lemmy.world•‘A’ Grades Are Suddenly Everywhere Since the Arrival of ChatGPTEnglish
17·1 day agoBack in the day just one instance of plagerism was very serious. If you got caught doing it more than once you could get expelled.
Now apparently everyone is using the plagerism machine including the professors. So much for academic integrity.

11·1 day agoCool, so the AI is acting sociopathic and seems to have a god complex.
“Recent research found that 17.14-24.19% of adolescents developed AI dependencies over time”
“These findings revealed that 75% turn to AI for advice while 39% perceive AI as a dependable presence, with attachment formation following traditional proximity-seeking, safe haven, and secure base patterns.”
I think the jury is still out so to speak, but a tool that is unpredictable that gives out poor advice and discriminates probably should not be used by people who are looking for therapy.

Reeks of controlled opposition for sure.
Four score and seven years ago wealthy slave owning fucks brought forth on this continent, a new nation on stolen land, conceived in greed and apathy, and dedicated to the extermination of all those considered lesser.
246 years of slavery, 95 years of enforced segregation, and 50 years of institutional racism.
We never even came close to defeating racism and the majority are in denial about this to this day. Now we have Jim Crow 2.0 and the institutionalized racism beats on stronger than ever meanwhile the supreme Court says we are beyond it. Who the fuck are they trying to fool.
The War on Drugs, which has always been a war on minorities, carries on unabated. Now we have Ice racially profiling everyone of color and once again the Supreme Court gives their approval. It is almost like SCOTUS is an illegitimate organization.

12·2 days agoProton doesn’t work with social security website unfortunately. I ended up using Tuta mail but then later got stuck on Login.gov because it required either a cell phone to verify by taking pictures of ID or a desktop with a camera for a video call.
Needless to say this is not something someone with no computer skills can accomplish. What is even worse is the local social security office stopped taking walk-ins. The solution? You guessed it, use the social security site to login and request an appointment…

67·2 days agoI work with homeless people and I discovered you can no longer make email without a cell phone with any major provider. I can’t get them into their social security without an email.
I was able to find an email provider that didn’t require a cell phone, but then you had to use a cell phone to get past the verification on the social security site. You are absolutely fucked without a cell phone now.

Technology@lemmy.world•Report: Google and SpaceX in talks to put data centers into orbitEnglish
1·2 days agoNASA did do a lot of it directly so no. There were subcontractors of course, but they were usually responsible for building specific things not the research that generally came from public universities and NASA.
SpaceX is not sharing their technology in the same way NASA did. In fact, they aren’t even patenting their tech as to keep it secret.

21·3 days agoThe extremes of space and the engineering of components goes far beyond just gravity. While there is no doubt that new technology would be developed this is not the government doing it. You really think they are going to give this technology away for free like the US government did? Highly unlikely.
It is not about refusing to see the forest because harvesting asteroids, then returning them to our planet for use on the ground is bonkers level aspirations. It would make more sense to keep them in space for manufacturing, but we are very far away from any sort of space building platform that could process raw materials into a finished product.
Energy from the sun is indeed abundant in space, but the costs of sending materials up will remain prohibitive until we no longer need rockets. That type of technology is still very far away although some proposals like a launch rail cannon, space elevator, or ablative laser propulsion could eventually solve this issue.
You also are missing just how fast technology is moving. Current AI centers expect to swap out hardware every three years or so. Who will be up in space swapping out the hardware of possibly millions of satellites. This is another added cost because realistically they will just have to keep launching.
You last comment completely misunderstands who the luddites where and what they wanted. They were against technology taking away livelihood not the technology itself. Your comment completely ignores this reality and paints luddites as something entirely different.

1·3 days agoMore so these are not giant data centers they are just satellites acting as a data center. So perhaps larger than a typical communication satellite but nothing like a giant warehouse that we would have on the ground.

1·5 days agoWhich is frankly bizarre. You can definitely run an AI to assist with coding locally for a lot less than hiring a coder for even a month. So if they can’t accomplish that without blowing the budget then there is no hope for them.
Correction: We pay waaaay more for waaaay less.
He would have been the first billionaire adjusted for a inflation if he had not died so young. He was a murderous land hoarder who used slavery and death to turn a profit. The rot was always there.
The government is an abusive partner you can’t escape from and if you do they will try and kill you. It is even worse than being trafficked because there is no escape.
Why anyone would accept being hostage to this type of lunacy is beyond me yet it appears the entire county does. We deserve better than constant psychological torture and death.

Apparently they cut a bunch of staff and many offices are by appointment only now. So basically you need to account for this if you are going to file.
Most of the troubles I have had are helping people whom are not technologically savvy and they sometimes don’t have a cell phone. Not having a cell phone makes the process extremely difficult because apparently it is just taken for granted that everyone has one nowadays.
You don’t need to worry until you are probably 62 which would be early retirement for you. You full retirement would be 67 which just means you get a higher benefit the longer you wait. When the time comes you can always reach out to Social Security and they will explain the process.
