You don’t need all that much. Most of my stuff, including a whole bunch of containers, runs in about 8gb. It used to be closer to 24gb, but that’s because I ran a bunch of windows VMs.

You can start small on disk space, too. Maybe 512gb or so on an ssd, and see how much you actually consume. Even my entire media library, containing more than I reasonably consume, is about 6tb.

Firmware, unlikely. Rootkit, probably. The most likely attack is plain old malware. Attacks relying on those security features being disabled are uncommon.

If a malicious actor says "hey here’s a guide to defeat denuvo on the latest game, and here’s the crack’, and the guide tells you to disable certain security features, the crack can contain malware specifically crafted to exploit that scenario. It’s one of the reasons that guides saying “disable uac, disable antivirus, run as admin” are a huge bright red flag.
