3·2 days agoBurned disks, you’ll probably lose some over 30 years, i’ve lost a few in 20 years, most are still readable.
Poorly pressed disks, you might lose one here or there. I had a two where the aluminum was poorly sealed and flaked off the label side.
I have hundreds of DVD’s in the 20-30 year range and have never had a problem reading any of them that weren’t scratched save the couple that were lacking in top lacquer.

1·2 days agoOhh yeah, best to stay out of echo chambers when you aren’t of the same voice.
To be fair, They’re not entirely wrong. It will straight up make a horror show if you don’t keep an eye on it and even if it succeeds, it’s nothing to really cheer about because it will eventually fuck over a LOT of people.
You can’t just tell it to make you a browser, insert $20k in tokens and walk away, but you absolutely can get it to make a multi player online party game or make a websocket client/server/admin to manage a dozen pc’s hooked into a video wall.
Running on Dell XPS, Lenovo T-Series and Asus laptops absolutely 0 problems with audio… except Slack.
Boss: let’s huddle
Me: OK! preferences > audio and video, webcam works, mic showing me talking!!! Join Huddle!
Boss: I can’t hear you.
Me: preferences > audio and video , microphone no longer exists.
pkill slack
slack &
restart huddle, it’s fine.
But, to be fair, he’s on windows and 1/10 times he can’t be heard.

6·2 days agoCompanies have been doing this for decades, maybe centuries. They would hire a ‘secret shopper’ to come in, order something, and fill out a checklist for corporate. It was done in department stores and fast food chains, any place that was a franchise where theire name was on the line. Some places hired companies to check up on people, some places just hired individuals. The fast-food chain I used to work at hired a neighbor paid them in free food.
Managers make people say it, and reports check to make sure managers are doing their jobs.
The really cool part about how we used to do it was we didn’t waste fuckloads of electricity/water to make sure managers were doing their jobs.

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon BUSTED for Widespread Scheme to Inflate Prices Across the Economy— Amazon, its vendors, and competing retailers are price fixing, hiking up prices for consumer products, making Amazon richerEnglish
5·3 days agoI already look there first :)
Def the same vendor at the end (well most of the time on the kind of stuff I buy)
The amount I save on 3-4 things is usually enough to negate an Amazon purchase.
That said, I’m not the kind of person who makes big or risky purchases from either of these places.

1·3 days agoIt’s actually a proper term in current marketing parlance. You can find it in glossaries in AppsFlyer, Adjust, and any of dozens of other digital marketing applications.
Ad spend is the amount of money a marketing team spends on digital and traditional advertising campaigns.
In the OP this differentiates it from a fine or paid feature. They’re are literally requiring them to buy advertising to allow them to post in an open forum.

So far it’s managed what I asked it for with only minor confusion. One day it’ll explode, until then, it’s REALLY fun to watch.

8·4 days agoThe idea is you give it shell access. Say use super coder agent bob johnson to write a thing that does x using this [framework], separate files by best practice for x y and z features, ask security agent OSO to look over the code and suggest changes, ask agent U.N.I.T to make unit tests, when the code looks good, run through the unit tests. If anything fails keep fixing and iterating until every thing passes. Create a README.MD for everything that was done, Create a TODO.MD for any future suggestions.
I’m simplifying, but this actually works to an extent. Each of the agents keep the context windows small, the whole thing stays sane and eventually nets some project that works. The downside is you end up giving it quite a bit of leeway to get the job done or you sit over it watching and authorizing it’s every move.
Kinda strange to see a safety director do that…
Red flags indicate one person is incompatible with the other. There’s no room for judgment.
If she’s asking if he thinks she’s annoying, that’s a red flag. The fact that she ran down to his car to ask him, double.
But hey, two people with that same energy prob work well together, just not stares at wall guy :)

Dotcom days, my company charged a venue $30k for an “emergency change” to disable a form and all links to it.
The dev already had a system switch for it. $30k, 10-second change.
