What do you even do with independent virtual desktops per monitor?
I’ve got 8 virtual desktops and 6 monitors, but I want the content of all 6 monitors to change when I switch virtual desktops. Having to do each monitor independently sounds like a huge pain.
(And, of course, there are a couple things I want on every virtual desktop. But it’s easy to set certain windows to be on all desktops.)
This actually confuses me, I’ve got one monitor I specifically use for messages(email client, work chat, personal chats, etc.) and another dedicated to media(music, podcast, streaming). The others are all varied depending on what I’m working on. Why would I want those to swap desktops with the other 3-4 which will always be doing many differing things?
Well, for me, each virtual desktop is dedicated to a different ongoing project. When I want to switch from one project to another, I just switch virtual desktops. Each project can have all kinds of windows open on multiple monitors, and none of them are relevant to the other projects.
Yeah, it likely won’t support that any time soon, because it’s incompatible with Extended Window Manager Hints standard.
Having said that, Plasma 6.6 (which just came out) allows for having only a single virtual desktop on non-primary monitors, which is all I wanted, personally…
Last time I’ve checked KDE couldn’t handle independent virtual desktops per monitor and my tiling manger can so…
Cosmic does if memory serves. I haven’t run it since late alpha but it might be worth a try again.

Set a window rule to have those particular windows be on all desktops. Then the others can switch while those stay the same.
But why would I want them all to change? I just don’t see how that’s useful, the others are monitors are all flexible for my needs in the moment.

I guess that makes sense, sounds stressful but like I said you do you. Thanks for explaining!
