Seems quite likely the parents had mental health issues too. Not excusing their conduct, but if we spent more on local public health services and had pushed a therapeutic intervention at this household I feel like this definitely could have been prevented.
Was this poor kid on the spectrum?
They only ever brought him to a doctor once in his short life. We may never know for sure, poor kid.

ARFID is often associated with ASD, too. But we’ll never know in this case.
