The diplomatic speech use is pretty funny.
“Faced with this apparent misunderstanding of the basic expectations of the office of ambassador, who has the honour of representing his country, the minister [Jean‑Noël Barrot] has requested that he no longer have direct access to members of the French government,” the ministry added. “It remains, of course, possible for Ambassador Charles Kushner to carry out his duties and to present himself at the Quai d’Orsay so that we may hold the diplomatic exchanges necessary to smooth over the irritations that, inevitably, can arise in a friendship two hundred and fifty years old,” it nevertheless specified.
I read that as a very polite ‘Fuck you, come apologize now!’
It means rather “you may deal with our underlings, who are your peers anyway”
And it was the second time he snubbed a summons. He’d done the same thing last year.
Would be nice if every other country did the same - no deals or discussion with the fascist regime under Trump until he and the GOP are gone.
Would also be nice if people understood that this was not some plump, politically motivated blow, but a very specific and adequate reaction to a very clear failure of one person.
Economics and making them feel the pain will get them results sooner, though both approaches are warranted.
The EU and global stocks are already surging as the US is in full retreat from anything but christofascist grifterdom. Shooting themselves in the foot, destroying close ally relationships, handing economic and infrastructure future to China and others on a platter (sustainable energy, batteries and electrification, education, transportation…).
Just like despots in North korea, Thailand ore anywhere else, the dictators will cut themselves off, keep themselves rich while their actual power wanes. And eventually be overthrown, but of course it will be all too late for the US by then. Probably have to fight Qatari drone armies to try to take back our national parks that will have been privatized.
