Are you such a capitalist that you can’t conceive of a nonprofit foundation fulfilling this role (despite hundreds of them existing and being demonstrably superior for open protocols than private companies)? Why should social media be run by anyone targeting profit?
Why should the medical industry be for-profit? Why should the education industry be for-profit?IMO, social media is one of the aspects of society that should NOT seek profit. Profits undermine the very purpose of social media which should be to help to keep real democracies healthy by providing unfiltered access to public discussion capabilities (without a capitalist thumb on the scales doing anything and everything to prevent poor people from all walks of life from banding together and figuring out how corrupt our governments are and how they purposely keep us fighting while robbing us blind).
