Mood among some in Iran shifts from hope of being rescued to dismay at destruction of infrastructure, culture and lives

After years of arrests, disappearances and mass killings of protesters, the hatred in Iran from some quarters for the hardline, oppressive governing regime had boiled into such a desperate rage that many believed Donald Trump’s promise that the US would “come to their rescue”.

Now, after a fortnight of war, with US and Israeli airstrikes killing hundreds as they hit residential blocks, shops, fuel depots and even a school, the mood is changing.

“They are also lying! Like the regime has been lying to us,” said Amir*, a student at the University of Tehran. “You are all worse than each other.”

The anti-regime protester has let himself hope for more from the US and Israel, which on the first day of the war had swiftly killed Iran’s most feared and powerful man, the supreme leader.

Immigrants who supported Trump “liberating” their home countries have a special place in stupid people Hell.

Let’s also not pretend for even a moment that these stupid motherfuckers were ever planning on returning to their home countries, even if they were legitimately made free and democratic. They scream for war and liberation that they have zero real stake in, and would never themselves participate in.

Chicken-hawk pathetic stupid fucks through and through.

In my personal experience, racial minorities who, at least, supported Trump in 2024, have the archetypical personality of a manipulative abuser.

They are arrogant, they are borderline or outright narcissistic, they look down upon everyone else around them, they are perpetually disruptive, they truly believe they’re the smartest person in the room, and everyone else feels colossal relief when they leave.

      This comment makes me sick.

I dislike Trump as much as the next guy, but for Iranians this is their home, their culture, their families. Of course they wanted to believe it would be liberated. Of course they bought into Trump’s lies because this is the closest chance at freedom they’ve had. What choice would they have? No don’t fight the authoritarian regime that displaced them?

Kindly go take your racist-ass victim blaming elsewhere.

Bro, if they paid attention to literally anything trump has ever done they would have known better.

It would be like trusting trump to babysit your 12 year old daughter and being surprised when she’s sold to a billionaire.

I misread the original comment and thought it was about Iranian Americans voting for Trump.

You aren’t wrong, but you can’t blame them for celebrating their regime being overthrown and supporting the Americans even under Trump. What’s the alternative, root for Iranian supreme leader?

~~They were talking about Iranian Americans who voted for Trump, which I think is where the confusion is from. ~~

Nvm, it was me who read it wrong. You’re absolutely right.
