Still a fair amount of people who know X is a nazi bar but still use it.

    • X is too popular / addictive
    • Alternatives are considered non-viable on a recommendation and feed algorithm basis
    • There are ideological barriers to alternatives. (Lemmy is an example)

There is a problem with this argument somehow. We are also a Nazi bar here on the Threadiverse, just with alternative-facts-using so-called “leftist” tankies rather than alternative-facts-using right-wing Nazis, yet we routinely ignore this fact. Tankies call for the literal genocide of everyone currently living in a Western civilization - i.e. they want me, you, and pretty much everyone we’ve ever met to die since we collaborate with their enemy by participating in capitalism. Anyone who has a bank account or pays rent is part of this.

But we are still here, despite knowing this? Lemmy.zip still federates with hexbear.net, lemmygrad.ml, and lemmy.ml. Ideological purity takes a backseat to practical convenience it would seem, everywhere you go. The Threadiverse is still better than Reddit, and Mastodon/Friendica/etc. still better than Xhitter/Facebook/etc. Despite the fact that we platform Nazis (in our case tankies) - heck, a lot of people here have literally sent actual funding to them, and it would seem that a large fraction of that funding goes to spreading their message rather than development of the Lemmy source code.
