Roko’s basilisk, is a thought experiment which states that there could be an artificial superintelligence in the future that, while otherwise benevolent, would punish anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to encourage that advancement.

News@lemmy.world•Trump officials rush to court to say Secret Service shooting is why the White House needs a ballroomEnglish
44·2 months agoI just had an idea for a totally fictitious short story about a president who keeps pressing hard for new ballroom, but it’s actually just a ruse for a new state-of-the-art top secret bunker that is being built underneath it. Anyways, this absolutely fictional president needs this ballroom/bunker because they’re not planning on leaving office after their second term, and their plan is to wait out the impending civil war from there. This could be a fun story to write, but I’m a little worried that it’s too far-fetched.

Yes, of course it’s both, but I think people are upset with the statement because Democrats (with a few exceptions) traditionally bend over backwards trying to ignore the fact that the billionaire class is a HUGE part of the problem.

9·3 months agoNormal people are boring and sad now?

Rest in peace, Norm. You were a real one.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have a link to a stream of this show’s segment? I tried Googling for it, but came up with nothing. I’d genuinely like to know what their argument against having these things is. I’m assuming it’s the same old “who’s going to pay for it” thing, which we all know is silly because we always seem to have plenty of money for wars, bailouts, subsidizes for corps/billionaires, etc. Still I’d like to hear their fearmongering talking points on this one.
