This morning, I realised that I even could find a positive spin for Spahn becoming president. Just imagine him being forced in that neutral, non-party, dignified position for a very long time. Instead of meddling in daily politics, he’d be forced to meet heads of state in front of his palace. Instead of establishing lucrative connections with the industry and establishing himself as an important figure in the party, he’d be sidelined to give New Year’s Addresses. It would put a sudden stop to all his ambitions to merchandise himself. His political career would be completely destroyed by becoming the nominally most important man that unfortunately has his hands tied in every aspect he likes to use them. :)

The difference being? Both being a dictator and being rich are leading to the same thing: being powerful; and that’s the sole reason to get one’s boots licked.

“At all” is probably a bit bold of a claim. Granted, with Wagenknecht leaving ship and taking her most avid followers with her, the most prominent “Russian” voice in that party is gone. But you still find a remarkably strong foundation of sympathies towards Russia in that party. No other normal party is as soft on Russia as them. That weird fixation of not giving Ukraine any weapons at all is exactly testament of trying to appease this part of the party that might have gotten quieter but still exists, while still fulfilling the expectations of especially the new influx of members/voters that are no longer filled with these crude nostalgic sympathies. I hope the Linke can overcome this but only time will tell.

They’re so obsessed with ‘overcoming the system’ that they don’t care whatsoever who to share the bed with to - allegedly - reach that goal.

We don’t close our “minds to China’s enormous markets and innovation potential” but simply understood that China itself is not interested in fostering foreign car makers on their domestic market in anything beyond short term but only wants to further milk them right now until they can produce it themselves.

Business in China is on borrowed time and anyone that can plan for more than three years should minimise dependencies and exposure on that market as fast as possible.

But obviously that’s something neither China nor managers solely interested in short term profits and stock markets want to hear right now. So we’ll keep on reading stories like these.
