Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If Christianity had retained Jewish dietary restrictions, white people would make racist comments about how they eat *pigs* in China!
1·2 days agoIsn’t this the exact same conversation Vince and Jules had in the diner in Pulp Fiction?
But yeah, I totally agree. There would have to a huge increase in pet pigs before it got to the same level as eating dog.
I hear they are very smart and make great pets, but I imagine most people would prefer something fluffier.

31·3 days agoI’m not making an argument at all.
The thought was if Christians didn’t eat pork, they would look down on people who do. Since you mentioned that there already is a religious group that didn’t eat pork, I asked if they do what OP assumes porkless Christians would do
If they do, then OP is in to something, if they don’t, then there’s no reason to think Christians would act differently.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•This country (the USA) was founded in REVOLT
17·5 days agoTrue patriotism is similar to love for your parents.
You appreciate and acknowledge the traditions and culture of how they raised you. You understand that they aren’t perfect, and accept their shortcomings. You are proud to tell people that they are your parents, and share stories of what they have done for you. And you do what you can to protect them if they are in danger or need help.
And false patriotism is a lot like false love for your parents.
Reluctantly obeying your parents out of fear, is not love. Being lied to and manipulated by your parents to trick you into loving them, is not real love.
If you truly loved your parents, and they were making destructive choices, you wouldn’t stand by, say “I love them, so they must know best!” and watch them destroy themselves. You would take action to get them help and get them back on track.

3·5 days agoIs it though? Most of my dreams seem to be things I know scrambled into nonsense. Like an old coworker showing up at my high school to help me find my kids. It’s just elements of my past scrambling together into a story.

11·6 days agoDo you think any of them would listen? I believe in your quest because I personally have friends, myself included, that would have benefitted from this service. Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The same people who rage against authority love moderating communities where their ideology is the only one allowed
38·6 days agoYou’re right. I suppose I should have said, you don’t complain about rules that you agree with. But generally, when someone’s on here complaining about being silenced and specifically quotes “People should not be harassed for these reasons:” I’d bet it was because they harassed somebody for one of those reasons and they feel that they should be able to do that.

35·6 days agoI find this hilarious because you keep raging about people calling someone fascist for not sharing the exact same opinion, yet that’s exactly what you’re doing, accusing me of being something I’m not because you won’t take the time to understand what I’m saying.

316·6 days agoThe only time people complain about rules is when they have broken them or intend to break them.
They seem upset for not being able to harass people for some reason, I’m just curious which form of harassment they feel is justified.
Is having one or two people telling you what to think better than having most of the world telling you what to think?
