Didn’t piracy go down massively back when Netflix first released? Because back then it was an affordable way for many to legally access a ton of content they couldn’t access legally before.

Ofc Netflix has since evolved past that point, but that’s also why many people don’t really like it anymore.

Also for me personally (because I have no data on how others view this):

If I only have the ability to legally get the licence to watch a movie/anime/whatever and not actually have any legal ability to buy it for a non ridiculous price, then my willingness to possibly see if I can get a pirated copy onto my HDD increases the more I actually like said movie/anime/whatever. Paying for being allowed to watch something during a specified timeframe easily gets more expensive the more often I actually want to rewatch and I don’t usually want to rewatch something 5 times a month but rather spread out across multiple months/years. I’d even be fine with only being able to properly buy a digital copy as I understand that printing more Blu Rays or whatever is just not that profitable once a few years have passed (as sometimes I stumble across stuff that just is older and that I haven’t been able to watch earlier). But I want the ability to actually own it so I can rewatch whenever I want without being forced to rely on the goodwill of some streaming company when it comes to availability/pricing.

Please let it bankrupt. And all the other genAI companies, too. The sooner the better.

We could try and spread it as “trust me bro this happened at my cousin’s company”. Maybe we can manage to scare the managers. If we write often enough that some company got bankrupted from a single ai-company bill these statistics-based-word-vomit-programs are bound to eventually regurgitate this story and then people will start to believe it.

This here. It’s the reason I swapped there as soon as the news about Firefox integrating Actual Incompetence went around and haven’t regretted it since. Everything works the exact same way as I’m used to from Firefox, zero regrets about the swap.

Seriously if the company I work for insists on me taking a plane to somewhere that’s 100% on them and not on me. Don’t try to make people responsible for decisions they have exactly zero say in. That just makes the average person completely shy away from even trying to make it better in situations where they have the ability to because why bother when you’re getting blamed anyways?

I had exactly one single plane trip in my entire life (going by life expectancy for my not-US country I’m about halfway through) that I wanted to do and that’s easily compensated by me not having kids while living in a western country. I don’t buy bottled water either and instead use exclusively water from my tap because it’s safe to drink and doesn’t need plastic bottles. I wear my clothes until they’re impossible to repair and once they reach that point I cut them up and use them to clean if the fabric allows it. I negotiated for more wfh days than the higher ups like to see in exchange for a slightly lower raise to cut down commute. I’m still trying to get my landlord to install an electric charger for cars so I can swap my car to an electric one, I even offered to pay that charger myself because no car is sadly no option. Especially not when with the current temperatures the biggest train company actually starts to DISCOURAGE people from using trains because the risk of getting a heat stroke is too high thanks to the air conditioning not being able to handle the current heat wave. Heck I could keep going with the things I do but this wall of text is already long enough. And unlike you I don’t shit on people who do not have a choice with things, because that’s just not a cool move and actually hinders any and all improvement.

Trains have WiFi, so you can work while you’re moving without harming productivity

I can work just as well on a plane. I don’t need WiFi, a company laptop (which I do have) is all I need. Any and all files can be saved beforehand for offline access and then I just upload them once I do have WiFi or LAN available.

Does the company you’re employed at always happily give you how many extra days you need to take a boat or to ride a train instead of taking a plane? Lucky you, I can promise you that’s not the case everywhere.

Like sure, you could insist on taking the cleanest transportation method available but that’s definitely putting yourself on the chopping block and while starving to death due to not having income definitely is very climate friendly overall (less humans = less negative impact on climate after all) I really hope you can see yourself why this isn’t actually a proper solution. Unless you want to see humanity go extinct but in that case might as well also continue the way we have so far.

You have a chair for that? I sometimes just keep mine in the dryer and just pull them out of there as I need them… No energy to get all of that out and ironed and folded after a day of work more often than not.

That happened some 20+ years ago. I’m on Linux by now, no way I’ll willingly put Win11 on my PC. But thanks, maybe it’s useful for someone else.

This reminds me of back when I first tried Chrome some many years back. I didn’t like it so I uninstalled it and a few days later it was back again without me having done anything other than shutting down & restarting my PC. Had to dig deep into parts you don’t ever need to touch for a normal uninstall to get rid of it for good and vowed to never install Chrome again because this is peak virus behaviour. Stuck with Firefox through it’s absolute lowest performance because of this, too.

Now I do have to deal with Chrome at work and I really hate it. Sadly the CEO loves Chrome so what can you do…

I’d honestly wish every second that Dave just tripps on the stairs and breaks his neck because I value my sanity more than I do value whoever might or might not profit from Dave’s existence. Even should it be an entire orphanage of poor kids he keeps running in thr back: Nothing can guarantee I wouldn’t end up harming more people than he actually is helping if my sanity goes out of the window because of him.

So there’s only 2 logical possible steps that can follow me having to work with Dave:

1. He gets the boot. If I have to actively sabotage his garbage to get this done then so be it.
2. I leave and go to a Dave-free place (or make my own).
