Yanno I hadn’t thought about it, but LLMs really came along and started eating BuzzFeed’s lunch immediately.
As one of the major manufacturers of human-derived slop, they must have seen the writing on the wall, surely?

I’m not trying to make an evaluative comparison between China and the US, I’m lamenting the state of US education and found a new phrase that felt descriptive about that online.

After following a friend who joined XHS after the initial tiktok ban a year or so ago, I started to notice this trend of Chinese people calling American education “happy education” and I bristled a bit because I didn’t find it all that happy. But as I see more and more people point out things like this, how the No Child Left Behind policy was implemented, how resources are diverted away from actually educating children… I kinda get it.
To be fair, I think the Chinese also have a biased lens here since their school days are like twelve hours long, I’m sure 7 AM to 3 PM seems more like daycare in comparison. But I think there’s some truth in the mockery.
This doesn’t apply to doctoral programs which really just seem like abuse and trauma factories. I don’t know a single happy, well adjusted doctor.

Did they do this to ask Iran to allow them passage through the Strait of Hormuz? I think this was one of the conditions that was offered to Arab and European countries.

Better start eating more duck! It’s far cheaper than beef these days anyway!

It’s not worth fighting for. It always has and still is a land of thieving, lying bastards. You can die for it if you want. I’d rather just go.

My great grandparents came to this country in the early 20th century fleeing fascism in Europe. It was their decision to leave that kept them and their family alive. Their friends that stayed weren’t as lucky.
I’ve always wondered what caused them to make up their minds. What was the final straw that snapped that made them say “We need to leave for our safety, there’s no hope of stopping what will come.”
Ever since they announced this bill, I think I found my equivalent. If this thing passes, there’s no saving the country. The DNC simply won’t act to mitigate its damage, I’ve seen how they work. The only outcome after that isn’t total fascist rule is violent and bloody civil war. And, frankly, I don’t trust Americans to fix the country however that war would shake out.
I think I’d just rather try my luck elsewhere.

The SAVE Act passing is probably a good sign to leave the US.

I don’t think you understand addiction and it’s causes if you think it can be mitigated by education alone.
The issue with substance abuse isn’t that people don’t know that nicotine, alcohol or methamphetamine is wildly addictive.
