I like it so far. In the words of Worf, it serves me. I definitely miss some of the settings I had available on my old phone, but this one is much snappier. The os is basically the same as normal android but without the builtin google garbage. I still have the android app store. I guess the main thing is since its a fairphone repair and battery replacement will be much easier so hopefully I can just keep it for a long long time.

I just upgraded to a fairphone 6 with e/os preinstalled after holding on to my LG G6 for at least 7 years. The thing that finally pushed me to upgrade was the camera, which was fine in 2019 but now is such a potato. Also the battery life was ass, the usbc port was super loose, and the micro sd card slot was broken so I was perpetually almost out of storage.

Even if you assume that the politicians aren’t being intentionally evil, in the best case they are acting from a position of negligent ignorance. It doesn’t really matter what their reasons are for supporting this, or what they intend for it to accomplish, the reality is that these kinds of laws will be used for the things I said. Someone should have told them that. Someone likely did tell them that. They decided, in the best possible case, that protecting children from seeing naked people or swear words is worth the dystopian surveillance of the general population. They’re fucking wrong and this kind of legislation only shows how ignorant and/or complicit they are. Maybe you could think like one fucking step beyond the political talking points to the real effects this will have.

Yeah it’s for deanonymizing your online activity so they can sell it to data brokers, who will then sell it to anyone who can pay. Anyone, including ad agencies, fascist governments, law enforcement, religious extremists, people who hate you for existing, etc. It’s not theoretical it’s right there in the open. Maybe the literal people taking your ID won’t do anything to you directly, maybe, but the data about you they sell without a second thought will be bought by people who will and do.

Every time the welfare thing comes up I respond, so what? Who fucking cares if some tiny minority of people abuse the system if it means the people who really need it have easier access, or access at all? No one abusing welfare is so rich you would argue they don’t need help anyway, unless there’s some sort of corruption going on. Big companies take way more in handouts from the government than people on welfare. Why can’t the big powerful successful corporations pull themselves up by their bootstraps?

Cable tv existed in the 90s. I remember when DVR came out so you could record tv shows automatically and watch them later. You could even fast forward through the ads! No more doing the bathroom break speedrun to avoid them.
