“I’m delighted to be wrong” is not something I want to hear from someone who has such an outsized impact on my perception of reality.


The secular aspect is important. The effort must be based on reason. I wasn’t suggesting a genetic solution to social ills but an appeal to rationality.


Let’s seriously consider requiring potential parents to get a licence to have children. It is not a personal matter as it impacts every single person that child comes in contact with for the rest of their lives.

The majority of websites are task based and aren’t’ meant to keep you constantly engaged, they’re meant to help you find what you’re looking for and take an action. It’s really only websites that rely on advertising to support them that want you mindlessly engaged for as long as possible so they can charge their advertisers more.


Not only will this suck but it will also be very dangerous. A large company whose goals are profit and manipulation that is essentially embedded in society should not be allowed to have this kind of control over this facet of the public square.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible for me to believe that anything the FBI does under Patel is based on anything other than ideology and incompetence.
Most likely a designer built these forms intentionally from requirements that tell him what elements need to be on each screen. It would be very simple to add an extra ‘opt out’ next to the opt in. The reasons the opt out option isn’t there are numerous. Most are not intentionally deceptive but some are. I’ve found that a legal requirement for something to be in place is a strong incentive for business to make it happen.
