17·1 day agoThat didn’t matter for me recently. On a site, flights in cart, looked at rental car for <5 minutes and the outbound flights jumped ~$60/ticket in that time “due to demand” when the flight was 80%empty…
Got on my phone, on data (so new browser, new IP) still prices are higher. Hopped on my old phone over VPN to change region, checked out a different leave date, checked a couple, went back to my original date and flights were $40 cheaper (so still $20 more than before) but they gotta know based on Geo IP and time of inquiries it’s probably all the same person, smh.
What a scam!!

102·2 days agoThat’s not going to happen. They’re going to bring in someone willing to do the dirty work like a Zuck or Altman, and catch up in the data harvesting, but play like they give a shit. “We protect your data from 3rd parties” while hoarding and monetizing it for themselves… They’re not innocent. I’m fact, their no better than Google or Microsoft.
When they stopped being able to convince everyone they needed a new phone every year, or accessories, now they just compensate by selling your data.
Hell yeah! Thanks!

Technology@lemmy.world•Federal Bill Would Bring OS-Level Age Verification to the Entire U.S.English
1·6 days agoThe other things politicians do, like in Illinois, is introduce one bill, and his other things within it to get things passed outside the normal channels. Like when Pritzker up and banned 170+specific firearms, ammo limitations, threaded barrels, and then started a registration process. Also repealed knowingly spreading HIV illegal, so anyone (by the sound of it-haven’t looked into it much) can sleep with a new partner without disclosing HIV status. I’m assuming that’s to appeal somehow to the LGBTQ community since the bulk of voters are the Chicago area, but some time he purely for just in time for elections.
You might think the firearms thing is OK as it helps cut down on crime. Nope, instead, there’s cashless bail and softer policies towards criminals. We can’t even accurately report those numbers based on how crimes or incidents are categorized. It’s a mess.
He also just made it so that a bulk of the DOT funds go to Chicago roads with little left over for the remainder of the state… The tolls collected by the Chicago area are supposed to help that, but nooo, just keep reallocating funds around election time. Sure.

Ah. A troll account. Got it.
Well, I’ll humor you. The world is changing, and as someone working in this field right now where AI is being pushed, it’s fun to watch people get excited for AI and watch the expression on their faces when they go to use it and are left unimpressed. Like a “I spent all this money for THIS ?!” facial expression.
As to why computer components are so expensive? To put it simply, the memory modules needed for RAM and SSDs are costly to make, and much of these resources are limited in how fast they can reliably be produced. So, many companies are capitalizing on the demand for “AI”, and a lot of that inflated cost is being passed onto consumers. So, thanks, another reason to hate AI I forgot to mention, and yes again, good troll!
Why would your opinion be so strongly FOR AI? There might be a few usable cases, but it’s nothing special, and has so many flaws, it’s not worth the detrimental affect it has on the environment!
All the hype is generated by the companies who’ve lost their asses in investing in it, and they hope others do too to lessen the impact.

2·9 days agoRemind me, is that 5th or 4th gen Intel? I’m thinking 5th, I seem to remember haswell-E (extreme) half gen coming out, which is why I’m stuck… but either way that’s awesome! Coming up on 12 years solid! Just retired my 3rd gen and opted to take my 7th gen daily driver and replace that machine, and make a 12th the new daily. Last year, so prices were a bit better. Didn’t have a use for that 3770K though anymore unfortunately.
