While I disagree for the most part, that’s just me being super cynical because of how super shitty things are right now. Also, I feel like there was a vanishing small window of time that MS Office way the go to suite and you didn’t use a CD for installation. My copy of Office 97 came on CD and Word Perfect was still very popular then.

Not on the better ones you couldn’t, but you could trivially pick with with paper clips.
Good question, could just be slop.
That’s because all of the other instances had the keys get lost and the owners had to break them open and buy new diskette cases.

3·10 hours agoWell, it used to be broken on ALL browsers in Linux, so let’s just go with less broken, which is a high mark for most MS software. MS and following standards are like oil and water.

1·11 hours agoI had nothing BUT problems with it, but I haven’t tried it in about six months as I started using Teams it in a chromium based browser. I only need to use Teams when working with strictly MS focused companies (i.e. not ours), so it isn’t a daily hassle anyway.

2·12 hours agoThe Linux client never worked in my experience anyway. In no coincidence, their Teams in browser never seemed to work in Linux either until a little after they killed the native app. I wonder if there were enough important clients that needed support for it and they caved and made it work.

6·12 hours agoTeams in browser is the only way that I use it either, and it isn’t “broken” like it used to be, but you need to use a Chromium based browser. This is typical Microsoft bullshit with only truly supporting “their” browser, luckily they don’t actually make an actual browser anymore so you can use any of the better Chromium browsers.

Technology@lemmy.world•Asus and Dell announce new mini PCs for Windows 365 | Goodbye local OSEnglish
3·2 days agoI am with you on not using a laptop, but as I said, the majority of people do so. My experience is quite different. In the last 20 years I tend to have several power outages a year, and I have lived in multiple cities/states. My home is filled with excessive battery backups because of this and are fine unless the outages exceed a few hours, which annoyingly the outages in my new home/area tend to do (the longest was nearly two days :( ).

6·2 days agoAnd yet, most consumers use laptops with build in batteries. A power outage doesn’t stop them dead most of the time. It will for Windows 365 users. You’re doing an awful lot of sugar coating for someone that claims to be against this product.

252·5 days agoWhile I agree with the general idea, your example prices are no longer valid since storage costs are now through the roof. The best defense of kids using DVDs is that you can borrow them from the library for free.
