Zelenskyy got the money. Why is he pressured to fix the pipeline?
there really should be somekind of limitation on how much you can abuse the veto system. or at least some reprecussions. Imagine if finland started to veto any and every decision? I bet at some point finland would get some serious problems for doing so, so why does hungary get special treatment?
There’s supposed to be Article 7, which strips a member state of veto powers and more BUT… the vote was always vetoed by one country allied to Hungary (for a long time it was Poland, now I think it’s Slovakia). So yeah there needs to be something better.
Yeah, that’s a problem the EU has. Some countries are abusing the fuck out of it and the EU has found no way to deal with them. This leads to Ireland selling out the personal data of all Europeans to American tech companies, Malta spreading harm over all of Europe by hosting all those gambling companies, Luxembourg plundering other countries state budgets by being a tax haven and Orban being russian puppet sabotaging every effort to help Ukraine. If every country needs to agree, of course those countries profiting from the harm they are doing won’t and that is a real problem
But any system that allows bypassing or starts to have repercussions if they vote “wrong” can quickly and easily be used for other things by bad actors.
that is why it should be up to democratic vote if such system should be used. or there could be certain amount you get, so countries would want to think more carefully what to block. like, you can have certain amount per year and if you need more, you could request more but then it would be up to others if you get it.
but then again, if hungary is pretty much the only country causing trouble with this, then there is no point in such system but instead it should be considered if hungary should be in eu in the first place. Hopefully things improve there so such thoughts could be put to rest.
Orban is up for election in a month and his poll numbers are pretty shit. Best course of action right now is just to wait for him to lose power. If they start attacking him in any meaningful way, it might produce a rally-round-the-flag effect and boost his poll numbers.
hopefully things get better if he loses power
EU still struggling
I don’t believe they are even trying. More like waiting for the Orban-problem to go away by himself.
Invent a parlamentary voting system. Fuck the council, fuck the members commity. Introduce a freaking parlamentary vote, and make it 60% for, to implement stuff in EU perspective.
There is a parliamentary system (like the US House). What you mean is turning the council into something more similar to the US Senate.
Yes, but without all the freaking houses. Takes a degree to understand us politic processes. Doesn’t need to be this complicated.
I wish but guess who’s gonna veto that
That is why we need a 2 or 3 tier EU members. I say screw those who doesn’t wanna join.
