    The first seated events would probably have been people speaking to larger groups in amphitheaters that naturally formed by rock formations. You can often find natural amphitheaters as features of parks with cliffs, and people were probably inherently drawn to those kinds of spaces

      Would people show up just to hear a guy speak though? Maybe the first things in those amphitheatres was a sport, or singing. Another likely possibility is something religious. If one of the gods wants you to show up to witness something, you better do it or else the next drought is on you.

        The theatres for music, plays, poetry readings etc. were a completely separate things; build usually in a crescent shape and focused on the acoustics and all that. So the circular roman amphitheaters were made specifically for the other entertainment, that was more about getting as many people as possible to be able to see the stuff instead of hearing. So the first use was most likely some form of gladiator battle or something similar
