Simplified non veiled title.
I’m going to keep voting all democrat basically no matter what, because there is no other option. But are those of us with money actually shooting ourselves in the foot?
By this I mean, we are basically voting for the government to tax us even more (at least this is what people in america believe). If you look at states like Minnesota, they have way higher taxes than red states. Blue states have more car inspection and taxes as well (which I personally hate and it just makes life harder). It also costs wayyy more to live in blue states, a big reason people in red states keep voting red to keep costs down. We don’t want $4000 per month rent here.
I guess it seems dumb to be voting for myself to get taxed more is all I’m saying. Obviously, thats not a big deal compared to voting for all out authoritarian fascism, but its hard to convince people to vote for higher taxes and more regulation thats going to make my life harder.
And yes I know there is more to it than that, but the average person I know votes on 1. Do they support abortion and 2. Will I get taxed more. I know those of you in any civilized areas will find it hard to believe, but this is what fox news does to peoples brains.
Establishment Democrats aren’t your friends, they’re necessary temporary allies.
At the end of the day, getting people in who will tax the billionaires who have gotten much of that wealth from the government (your taxes) is what will actually fix it.
For now a blue vote is stopping the bleeding.
Red states have these things too, just not all of them. My state is staunchly red, has yearly vehicle inspection requirements, and we continually pay to subsidize coal companies taking on projects (under the assumption they will pay to clean up the used land once done), only for the LLC to go bankrupt and the state get handed a bill. We have a gas tax, and are in the top half of all states in the amount. We don’t have recreational weed, but we have medical, however the rules around it basically guaranteed only out of state companies could open places, funneling money from the state (you needed $1 million in CASH on top of your start up funding to even be considered for a license). Some people just refuse to introspect and look for the easy way out, i.e. blame immigrants and Democrats. Trump has come here often, and made plenty of promises, delivered on none of them. Nothing has gotten cheaper, we’re cutting sweetheart deals to data centers, and these idiots will continue to elect coal barons and millionaires because they get permission to hate the right people from them.
Not to mention, our roads are absolutely destroyed by gravel and mineral dump trucks driving on them at a rate of hundreds per day, but the county/state won’t do anything to the companies because they say they’ll move to the neighboring county/state. So we get terrible roads, roads closed constantly for repair, and then pay more in taxes over it to make these repairs, because they don’t want to lose the business taxes. The employees complain about the roads out of one side of their mouth, demand less taxes from the middle, and then whine and complain when elected officials even propose something to solve it because it might effect their employment a little.
If you have money you aren’t worried about taxes going up. Those folks are poors in denial.
Vote Democrat. Push for wealth tax. This is a class war (they should understand that) and we have a better chance to make progress with the Dems.
You shouldn’t be objecting to taxes. Taxes are good - that’s how public services get funded, for example, and social programs, lunches for kids, medical care for people who can’t afford it… All of these are examples of good uses of taxes, and if we lowered taxes to minimal levels, all of these things are what would get cut.
What you should be objecting to is the egregious spending on things like corporate handouts, subsidies for sectors that shouldn’t be getting them, endless wars and utterly insane military budgets, executives contributing billions of dollars to their own slush funds in the name of “peace”…
Basically, corruption and warmongering - that’s the umbrella this all falls under, generally speaking.
So what you then should ask yourself is, which party or candidate supports this behavior, and which does not? Vote for the one that does not.
I’ve been told the government doesn’t actually need any of our taxes, if they truly need money they print or borrow it. So taxing is an utter scam.
I have no way to prove or disprove, but its a common theory.
I do wish i could see where every cent of my taxes truly go, unfortunately that’s just an impossible task, it seems. I’m all for taxes that go to schooling, healthcare, roads etc.
If they simply print money at will then it becomes worthless. Current only has value when there is a limit to it and is backed by meaningful credit of the issuer. Long ago it was known as the gold standard that you could literally exchange currency for material gold. Now things are largely financed by debt issuance which has an attached promise of interest with it.
