TPM IS good in a lot of subtle ways that were completely nullified by Lucas chickening out on making Jar Jar a sith lord. Watch* again with an eye on JJB and you’ll notice him subtly manipulating all the characters and action in the movie.
I think Jar Jar was too successful at being marketable comic relief. I’m fully camp sith JJB as written TPM. It would’ve been much more compelling story-wise, but we know Lucas is all about those merchandising rights, and I’d put real money on him seeing his popularity with the kids and chickening out for the bag.
