I never trust taxi drivers who use an electronic map. Taxi drivers should know all of the streets by heart, and be able to accurately predict road congestion, like they did in the good old days. By using this evil navigation technology, their spatial awareness withers and it is just a shame.

I mean, it is true that if you don’t use a GPS or an electronic map that you do develop a better awareness of your surroundings and the street mapping. Same way using a guide to something doesn’t let you really remember and commit to memory the task you’re doing.

It’s just that AI exacerbates that tendency tenfold, because you don’t even have to follow a guide if the guide does it for you.

knowing streets and predicting road congestion are not creative acts, that is they are not creating something

Wow, okay. I mean I was being sarcastic with my comment, but now I kinda regret it. Way to cheapen another profession’s talents and trade.

nothing in your comment indicated sarcasm. unless you’re brand new to the Internet you should know perfectly well that pure-text communication lacks the fidelity to indicate that. this is why so many times over the age of the internet people have tried to add in a way to communicate that either with “/s” or SaRcAsM/mOcKiNg CaSe, or italics sometimes, someone once even tried to make a sarcasm mark

I said nothing to cheapen taxi drivers or their profession. I respect and appreciate it a great deal, especially with examples of them unionizing. That doesn’t change the fact that the profession does not create a thing. I find it disingenuous that you would suggest that not calling a profession creative would diminish it.

Garbagemen, for instance, is a profession that is very much worth respecting but also which does not create anything.
