I have AN explanation of it. When you’re a minority in America, people see your minority status first, and then you. You’re an Indian man and THEN you’re whoever you are. Some people resent this association so much that they come to hate it and actively work to disappoint expectations of them. You’re expected as a minority to vote Democratic but some people are like fuck that, look at me, I’m down with Trump baby. I’m an individual! I’m a maverick! And of course once someone makes this leap, MAGA embraces them like mad because “see it proves we’re not racists.” That person then enjoys a kind of celebrity status and is generally slapped on the back all around by MAGA, which to some is preferable to being yet another faceless vote in the minority block, doing what’s expected of them. It’s a pretty common trope for a fascist, dominant group to accept a member of the “out group” as a kind of mascot as long as that person sends the right signals that they accept the hegemony and bow to it.

I don’t ascribe this self-hating shit to every minority Trump voter. Of course Trump appeals to assholes everywhere and there are just assholes of every stripe. I’ve actually come across quite a number of Indian men who are super type-A, headstrong and as full of themselves as any white man ever. In temperament, these guys do have more in common with Trump than, say, Kamala Harris.

I mean they are pretty in line with the narcissistic traits necessary to crash a celebration in a locker room where there are definitely going to be cameras.
