While he definitely didn’t help Orbán, I wouldn’t give him this much credit. News have been crazy over here last week, including stories, like 3 whistleblowers confirming that the intelligence agency was used to try to secure the victory by leaking data from the then opposition (now victorious) party. To me (as a Hungarian) that’s a far bigger story than the pathetic dipshit flying over.

Also, just getting closer to election day would naturally make the odds converge towards 100%-0%. Since there is less and less time for a lead to disappear.

Yeah, don’t think that effect/logic was working here significantly.

Orban’s party really just had at least one major scandal for every day through the last two weaks. Think like several different Watergates on steroids daily. Sometimes two or three a day.

Seriuosly, we were having calendars made about them to keep track of them and everything. It was a fun game to try to predict where the next days scandal(s) are going to come from. It was like the mother of all bad campaign finishes. I was having a blast, it was beautiful.

As a Hungarian, was there any value to Vance being there? Like would it have at least energized Orbans base supporters?

Maybe a very minor amount. I feel like the Vance supporters overlap with the diehard Orbán supporters anyways, so whoever Vance could have swayed didn’t need to be swayed.

The only thing it could have contributed to is our records turnout.
