Buy European@feddit.uk•European English Dictionary Recommendations?English
5·6 days agoAs others have said, Oxford, Cambridge, Collins and Chambers are all used in the UK and there are variations of them as well (for example he Oxford English Dictionary is not the same as the Oxford Dictionary of English which is a completely different dictionary published by the same people) but they also all have different styles and rules when it comes to primarily using British or American english spelling.
If I was recommending a single one I’d say the Oxford Dictionary of English, its cheap and it is the one that served me all the way through school as it was the one we were made to get.

6·12 days agoI tried but failed, people are so reliant on it that I couldn’t interest people enough and gradually even some people who moved over, drifted back.

5·12 days agoHappy that worked for you but doing so would have cut a huge social part of my life away, its more than just 1:1 messaging stuff.

7·12 days agoThey can but that instantly excludes me from casual day to day things like my family group chat or more spur of the moment messaging - plans here heavily favour data these days over texts - honestly the only texts i get these days are automated services. I just have no desire to be so isolated from friends and family

253·12 days agoWithout whatsapp I would essentially be losing contact with my family and a ton of friends and colleagues. And some businesses even use it. Do I want to, no. Have I got some people on signal, yes. But there simply isnt a way for me to cut it out of my life unfortunately.
Its the ‘MAP pride’ flag which is so fucking stupid to use even if its on a meme about Epstein as it just reinforces the idea that that the right have in thinking it is a valid and accepted lgbtq identity… There is literally no reason to ever use it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon: Older Kindles can no longer download e-booksEnglish
3·15 days agoAt least with kindle books bought from amazon you have to use their own software to transfer. They stopped the old app working which could download books to your computer so now they just have to check if the kindle it is connecting to is attached to your account and on a software version they support.

Buy European@feddit.uk•Canada in the European Union? Poll suggests broad openness to the ideaEnglish
22·17 days agoI think you give too much credit to the morons who voted for economic suicide. They didn’t vote to have deals with Australia, they all thought we were so big and important that the EU would bend over backwards to give us a favourable trade deal even though every single expert on the subject disagreed. The Australia and Canada deals came up only after we shot ourselves in the head.
Since I adopted the mantra of ‘block early and often’ things have been much better and nothing of value has been lost.
Whilst unlikely in sweden, you unfortunately can’t entirely rule out the fact that half the country desires to commit economic suicide to stop imaginary threats to sovereignty by choosing to leave EU…
Yeah but I bought an 8gb pi 5 on release (09/23) for £79. The same sku is now £168…
You would be shocked how fast objects get lost in even a small handbag… So many panic attacks thinking ive lost keys

6·30 days agoI love Tony’s but I don’t know if it is because of how thick the bar is or if it is how irregular and hard to snap the chunks are (and the taste) but I find it so much harder to eat in moderation.

31·1 month agoHaving agents.md is a silly criteria… One project I’m with is doing GSoC this year and another org recommended using agents.md to tell the AI that will inevitably be used that it needs to tell the person that AI copy paste will not be accepted and please don’t bother unless you can demonstrate understanding of what you are doing.

Most people don’t. There is a theory (and I don’t know if it was ever verified officially) that Adobe stuff was made so easy to pirate and crack intentionally. That way students and people learning how to use their tools (primarily photoshop) would master it and therefore force any employer they later worked with to get and stay with Adobe and their expensive enterprise licences. The lower the barrier of entry the more people in the workforce could be competent with it.
