The lies for Iraq were no better. Everyone knew that it was Bush jr wanting to finish Daddy’s war. He had been making noises about it since day one January 20 2001.
It was a different sort of atmosphere. Americans, especially the American right-wing, were consuming a media diet that was 100% fear and paranoia.
Republicans and Republican voters knew that Iraq was all based on lies, and they didn’t care. And since they had enough votes in Congress, they pushed forward.
No doubt. Most of the world knew they were talking shit about Iraq, but they at least tried for a while and got their stupid Coalition together for the invasion. In the current case with Iran it looks like they’re not even trying that.

It was an easier sell because of 9/11.
Not that that made any fucking sense either, mind you.
“We must go after the Afghani terrorists by (checks notes) attacking Iraq!”
Saudi terrorists
We must go after the Saudi terrorists by going after the Afghani terrorists by attacking Iraq! What part of that don’t you understand!!!

Where’s the “different” part?
